Whilst the paperwork mountain is still a slowly decreasing mass, we are making the most of the time available and continuing to strip out and move stuff that we want to continue into the new world...
After 5 hrs of breaking up the patio and carefully digging around the roots, we extracted the rose which was on the corner of the house. Once it was out we carefully sliced the top off an old water butt and filled it with rocks and soil... Only to realise that the roots went out horizontally from the rose and there was no way it would fit!
A few choice words later (mainly aimed at the rose but also at ourselves for not thinking about basic measurements!), and a new plan was born. Yet another waterbutt was located and sliced up, to make a temporary home for the rose. An added extension of an old pot and it was finally wide enough to accommodate the roots of the rose. Then all we had to do was transfer the rocks and earth and an hour later we were done.
Hopefully it will survive and all the digging was worth it..because there are definitely better types of fun to have on a Saturday!
